Student Visa for Bachelor's Students

Undergraduate students studying in China for longer than 180 days apply for the

X1 Study Visa

Estimated Costs & Financial Overview

China offers one of the highest quality-to-cost ratios in global higher education.

Annual Tuition Fees

Public universities (Engineering, Business, Arts): ¥6,000 – ¥10,000 RMB per year. Clinical Medicine (MBBS): ¥16,000 – ¥20,000 RMB per year.

Accommodation (On-Campus Dormitories)

¥200 – ¥350 RMB per month, depending on the city and room type.

Monthly Living Costs

¥700 – ¥1,000 RMB per month, covering food, transport and personal expenses.

Figures are indicative and vary by university and city. Your counsellor will provide an exact written breakdown for each university on your shortlist, including insurance, visa and registration charges.

Scholarship Pathways for Bachelor's Applicants

Many qualified international applicants reduce or fully cover their tuition and living expenses through these programmes.

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

Full coverage including a 100% tuition waiver, free university accommodation, medical insurance and a monthly living stipend.

Provincial & City Government Scholarships

Full or partial tuition coverage plus monthly living allowances, offered by provinces such as Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong.

University Presidential Scholarships

Direct merit-based awards from individual universities, covering 50% to 100% of tuition fees.

Scholarship decisions rest entirely with the awarding body. We strengthen your application and apply where you are genuinely competitive, we do not promise outcomes we cannot control.

Intakes & Application Timelines

Applying early materially improves both your admission and your scholarship chances.

Autumn Intake (Primary)

Classes begin in September. Applications generally run from November to May.

Spring Intake (Secondary)

Classes begin in March. Only a limited number of programmes accept spring applicants. Applications generally run from September to December.

Scholarship deadlines usually close well before university admission deadlines, so the scholarship calendar should drive your start date, not the admission calendar.

Processing Duration

The student visa itself is typically issued within 7–15 working days of submission. The full journey, however, application, admission letter, JW202 issuance, document attestation and medical examination, generally takes three to four months. We recommend beginning your file at least 8 to 12 weeks before your intake, and earlier still if you are applying for a scholarship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions undergraduate applicants ask us most often.
Do I need to know Chinese to study in China?
Not for English-taught programmes, which cover most popular majors including medicine, engineering, computer science and business. If you choose a Chinese-taught programme, you will need HSK Level 4 or above. All students study basic Mandarin alongside their degree.
As a rough guide, tuition ranges from ¥6,000 to ¥20,000 RMB per year depending on the programme, with dormitory accommodation and living expenses adding roughly ¥900 to ¥1,350 RMB per month. Your counsellor will provide exact figures for your shortlisted universities.
Part-time work is permitted only with prior authorisation from both your university and the local exit-entry administration. It should be treated as a possible supplement, never as a way to fund your studies.
Degrees from recognised Chinese universities are internationally accepted. For medical degrees specifically, recognition by your national medical council determines whether you can sit your licensing examination, we only recommend universities that meet this requirement.
